Genome-wide association analysis

A genome-wide association study (GWAS) is a genetic analysis aiming to map the poly-genetic architecture of a certain observable phenotypic trait. These studies take advantage of genetic variation in the form of Single Nucleotide Polymorphims (SNPs) to detect the present of variation at a significantly higher frequency in the phenotype of interest comparatively with a control population.
