Fusion gene detection

Fusion genes generated by reshuffle of genetic material have been correlated with cancer progression and in the initial steps of tumorigenesis. Gene fusions occur due to the juxtapositioning of (parts of) two previously independent genes, giving rise to one or more hybrid genes, often as a product of somatic structural rearrangements. In RNA-seq, fusion genes can be identified through chimeric transcripts.
